Building on the phenomenal interest in performing art from Finland and the Nordic region, From Start to Finnish is an international showcase project that taps into Finland’s astonishing performing arts tradition by presenting successful Finnish artists and works at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The project was officially set up in 2011 by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland and ACE-Production, following a pilot scheme in 2010. Since its formation the project has presented some 30 pieces of work, of which many have been nominated or won awards. From Start to Finnish performances have received critical acclaim in Edinburgh and gone on to tour internationally.

The assignment was to renew the program’s visual identity in 2019. The end result relies on dualistic expression – utilizing the stereotypical “Finnish spirit” and nature.
